SAP AI singularity marches on with SAP HANA Cloud Vector Engine
Yet again I'm in awe of SAP, when they say they are going to become the leaders in a new business enabling tech they mean it.
SAPs aim is to become (I think they are there already) the number one for enterprise application software and business AI
And they have been building and investing in AI since 2015, rapidly becoming leaders in machine learning, Inteligent data fabrics and robotic process hyper automation (RPA).
With the advent of "Just Ask" AI to enable the data fabric concept and "Joule" to enable User and developer productivity, together with a highly robust and impressive AI roadmap for SAP S/4 and the wider product portfolio SAP.
So where does the Cloud Vector Engine fit in ?

CVE is a large language model (LLM) algorithm that learns and recognises text.

SAP are now investing heavily in their own LLM opposed to using GPT, Claude 2 etc ... learning everything hidden within the operating model orchestrated by SAP.
So its always good to remember SAP is not Tech, SAP is the Industry 4.0 operating model used to run every aspect of the enterprise and its relationships
So whats my honest view of CVE ?
Well I'm old enough to remember how the whole HANA data base revolution started with the old BW accelerator, back then it was SAPs first stab at an entry level big data engine ......
So CVE is a must have foundation component for the SAP application product portfolio going forward.
So this is a statement and an important one as to we are here to own this space.
Its interesting that its currently no more than a side car component of SAPs PaaS solution BTP... which tells me two things
CVE is very similar to what SAPs Hybris solution did back in the day. Hybris has now been sliced and diced Hannibal the cannibal style some bits embedded into S/4 and some as stand alone cloud applications.
So expect to see:-
1) It’s early days and at some point we can expect to see a new HANA DB with this fully integrated !! So CVE will be embedded.
2) It will be secretly available under the counter to non SAP Rise / On-prem / Hyperscaler hosted customers ....
So where is the immediate value ? And what do CIOs need to do....
A clear we are No1 in business AI
It demonstrates SAP product evolution is speeding up and the only way to effectively consume this is to move to RISE and SAP cloud.
It sends a clear warning shot to the legacy ECC instal base, "you will get left behind"
Its a checkmate stopping Customers using alternate Hyperscaler analytical solutions due to the throughput charge
Current SAP CIOs need to simply consider again
is it time to suck it up and move to RISE SAP cloud
Is it time to decommission BW and BPC for DataSphere and SAC.
And if your CIO on a legacy ERP and your envious then maybe its time to consider Grow with SAP....
